“You have to participate relentlessly in the manifestation of your own blessings.” - Elizabeth Gilbert
It’s that time of the year when people across the globe set up some new year’s resolutions. This is a good practise but really, how far has it taken you? I remember back in the days, getting excited about writing down my new year’s resolutions. Unfortunately, this became a tick-box exercise as I never really put much effort into achieving what I had penned down. Looking back, I realise that is mainly because I didn’t really know much about goal setting and the importance of being intentional about what needs to happen for me to realise those goals. Other times it was because of the naivety that as much as I wanted those things on my list, someone else had to fulfil them. And boy I used to get disappointed when they were not fulfilled. What I didn’t realise was that I had to play an active participatory role in ensuring that those goals and dreams get fulfilled.
Like Elizabeth Gilbert says, “you have to participate relentlessly in the manifestation of your own blessings”. I underlined and bolded those two words to emphasise how important this is. This is true. For you to realise your dreams, live the life that has been designed for you, you have to play an active role in journeying to get there. You cannot be a spectator. You can't opt in and out as you please. You have to take the lead, be proactive and stay determined. You have to use your resources (time, money, energy, networks, etc.) to ensure the fulfilment of your blessings.
In this new year, remember that what you desire requires action from you. You can’t outsource or delegate what only you can and should be doing. To enjoy the blessings which have your name on, you have have to keep it moving, in the right direction, at the right pace, with dedicated effort, relentlessly so, without giving up. And as you keep it moving, don't look over at your neighbour's blessings with envy. Focus on your own journey and put in the work to see the manifestation of your blessings.
Even when it looks bleak, let faith in the unseen drive you to persevere.
This year, be audacious and take time to reflect on these questions. You owe it to yourself!
Which area of your life have you remained inactive in?
Which parts, which you needed to take responsibility for, have you outsourced to other people or relegated?
What actionable items are you going to do to participate in the manifestation of your blessings?
What are your success measures, i.e. how will you know you were successful?
The 2022 blessings with your name on, are waiting for you. Are you going to be active in seeing them manifest or will you stay on the sidewalk? The choice is yours but for your sake, I hope you choose the former.

We fail ourselves by always having dreams and hopes and yet, waiting on others to fulfil them for us. Or even setting up resolutions for ourselves but not having plans with clear goals, timeframes and targets to fulfil them. We only have ourselves to blame. It's time for change.
